Some of my INTRUDER riding buds have come up with a simple fix, so to speak, to the question that you have posed. They rewired the headlight to the sidestand switch. As long as the sidestand is on the ground, (like when starting the bike), the headlight is off, thereby sending more power flowing to the cranking system. Another neat feature of this is that while the bike is sitting at idle (with the side stand down), the charging system isn't being "taxed" by the headlight. When you put up the sidestand to drive away, the headlight comes on, that way you won't "forget" to turn it on and become less visible (I agree with WD about riding during daytime hours with the highbeam on--the "brighter" you are, the more visible you are to others). Simple, and relatively inexpensive too. If you want the info, just email me and I can send it to you.
